December 17, 2024 MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
This meeting features a presentation by Bruce Gatling-Austin, the Educational Coordinator of the Botanical Garden of the Piedmont (video recording). Also, Christine Putnam, Cville100 Board Member, will share information on recent developments in the update of the Albemarle County comprehensive plan.
As usual, representatives of affiliated organizations will report on their recent activities and current climate action issues. Something different—we will encourage group representatives to share their thoughts on how recent election results will lead to shifts in tactics or other aspects of their organizations’ programs.

November 19, 2024 MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
This meeting features an update on sustainability efforts at the University of Virginia by representatives from the UVA Office of Sustainability.
As usual, representatives of affiliated organizations reported on their recent activities and current climate action issues. Something different—we encouraged group representatives to share their thoughts on how recent election results will lead to shifts in tactics or other aspects of their organizations’ programs.

October 15, 2024 MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
This meeting featured two presentations. Jamie Powers of the Albemarle County Climate Protection Program, provided us with an update on program activities and a sneak peek at findings from the forthcoming 2018-2022 county greenhouse gas inventory.
Also, Max Gruenig, a leader in POCACITO (Post-Carbon Cities of Tomorrow), reported on visits to our area on October 24-25 by German youth activists Luisa Neubauer and Helena Marschall. Max arranged opportunities for interactions between the local climate action community and these activists.

September 17, 2024 MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
At this meeting, James Groves discussed effective vs. ineffective climate action policies. He presented a recent paper in Science Magazine, ‘Climate policies that achieved major emission reductions: Global evidence from two decades,’ and a podcast addressing public persuasion methods.

August 20, 2024 MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
At this meeting, attorney Bill Espinosa discussed climate action implications of recent supreme court decisions. Tom Olivier reported on recent changes proposed in the update of the Albemarle County comprehensive plan. Cville100’s recently approved outreach program was explained.
In addition, representatives of affiliated organizations reported on their recent activities and current climate action issues.

July 16,2024 MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
At this meeting, Rob McGinnis, a staff member of the Piedmont Environmental Council for Albemarle and Green Counties, reported on potential local impacts of data centers. In addition, Mary Wickham, a board member with the 500-Year Forest Foundation and Mary Elfner, its executive director, will discuss the foundation’s work. As usual, members of affiliated organizations will report on their recent activities and discuss opportunities for climate activism. Click links to view videos.

May 21, 2024 MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
Cville100 annual elections of officers and board members will be held at this meeting. The meeting will include a short presentation by Tom Olivier on Albemarle County’s Rivanna Futures project. The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on the project on May 14, followed by a Board of Supervisors hearing on June 12. Here is a link to a planning staff report on the project.
At our meeting, Cville100 Climate Alliance organizations will report on their recent activities and share information on climate action possibilities. Much is happening now in both the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County, so we expect wide-ranging discussions among attendees.

Nominations of candidates from the floor are permitted at the meeting. Any member who wishes to be a candidate but cannot attend the May 21 meeting should communicate their wish to be considered for an office to a co-chair before the meeting. Co-chairs are Bill Espinosa (whe@espinosalaw.net ) and James Groves (jgroves6e@gmail.com).

Emily Irvine, Charlottesville’s Climate Protection Program Manager, will provide an update on the state of the City’s climate action program.

March 19, 2024 MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
Gabe Dayley, Albemarle County’s Climate Program Protection Manager, will provide a brief update on the state of county climate action program. Gabe also will field questions from attendees.
In addition, Christine Putnam will discuss dark skies. Light pollution is causing our nights to become almost 10% brighter every year. The disappearing darkness affects the health of all living things. Learn more about the impact of light pollution and the things we can do to address it.
The meeting will include a discussion of the status of Charlottesville Area Transit bus fleet electrification. (Much has happened in this arena in the past month.)
As is our custom, representatives of affiliated organizations will report on their recent activities and current climate action issues.

January 23, 2024 MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
NOTE: January meeting is being held on 4th Tuesday because the Charlottesville City Council
will hold an important meeting on bus fleet electrification on January 16, the third Tuesday.
General Announcements:
Bruce Glassco (Charlottesville-350) will update Alternative Fuel presentation given to the City Council and updates on the bus electrification campaign.
Participant Reports:
The meeting features reports from Cville100 allied organizations about their activities and climate actions. Representatives that report out include the Sierra Club, Charlottesville Center for Peace and Justice, Citizens Climate Lobby, UVA Office of Sustainability, PEC, PVCC, Green Grannies, and Charlottesville-350 and more!
The meetings are open to the public. Join us and take part in the local climate action scene!
All are welcome to attend the monthly meeting of the Cville100 Climate Coalition. We are an alliance of organizations with local climate action as part of their mission. Our meetings feature climate action news and discussion. Much is happening now in both the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County, so we expect wide-ranging discussions among attendees. There are many opportunities for you to be INVOLVED in climate action!
